Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt to explore the changes among the youth subcultures in Serbia. For that purpose, the authors interpret the results of the empirical research of the EXIT Summer Noise Festival audience (collected during the manifestation on July 2002), in wider context of social and cultural changes. After showing the main characteristics of that public, they discuss their musical preferences, dressing styles and some elements of deviate behaviour. The general conclusion is that youth subcultures went thru significant changes during the last decade of the twentieth century: first, they lost their capability to represent the distinct group identities on the level of style and, second, the various types of popular music are no more in the function of particular value system and world view. These changes are partly consequence of the economic, political and cultural isolation of Serbia in that period, but they are also the result of the recent trends in popular, especially electronic music.
