Summary/Abstract: Funeral Announcement and Funerary Practices in the Romanian Society after 1990. The present research approaches the discourse on death in the post-comunist Romanian society as reflected in the funeral announcements published in newspapers and in the choice of funeral practice. The inventory of the funeral announcement after 1990 witnesses the attempt to recover the Christian formulas, lost during the communist period. On the other hand, there is a tendency to avoid the word „death” and to replace it with diverse abstract formulas. As concern the funeral practice, our research granted attention to incineration, presenting some historical dates about this practice in Romania and the position of the Orthodox Church. The incineration appears to be a marginal practice in comparison with inhumation both during the Communist and post- Communist period. However, the propaganda pro-incineration is very active in Romania, being presented as a solution to the „graveyards crisis”. In fact, incineration is modern practice which shows the religious indifferentism of the contemporary man.
