PROPERTIES OF DISPLACEMENT FUNCTION AND APPLICATION TO CONSUMPTION FUNCTION

Summary/Abstract: Fuel consumption is one of the important expenses in maritime transport which has pushed the maritime companies to find various alternatives due to the unstable oil prices. Low speed cruising is one of these alternatives. Lowering the speed also reduces fuel consumption due to the fact that the fuel consumption is directly proportional to the speed. In this study, the fuel consumption of a ship moving at economic speed is approached with a new function which we call displacement function and a more accurate estimation is made than classical calculation formula.
