Summary/Abstract: The faith in the prophetic theology is bound up with God’s Word, which as a shaping power enters into history in a dialogical process. The prophets are, therefore, to be credited for the creation of the linear understanding of history containing three dimensions: past, present, and future. For this understanding the prophets are indebted to the faith in God that acts in a saving manner in the concrete historical situations. Their faith, therefore, has in its essence fully historical features. They in fact liberate faith from the limitations of cult, Temple, nation, and land and create presuppositions for the understanding of its universal value. Faith in the prophetic proclamation has the power of shaping history, particularly in the decisive moments of the nation. As concrete examples might be taken the prophetic views of Isaiah in the period of Ahaz, of Jeremiah in the period of general national and religious cataclysm, of Ezekiel in the period of exile and the disappearance of all political and religious institutions. Faith in God that saves and makes the vertical of life was the power which opened the future to life.
