Summary/Abstract: Ritual prayer has a large impact on the lives of the believers, however, it is the daily prescribed prayers that have the greatest influence and that must be performed five times a day. The ritual prayer guides believers to positive habits and it also helps them refrain from immorality and evils. Prayer is a modest source of life for believers and a barrier that prevents him or her engaging in squander. Indeed, the Qur’an mentions the prayer as a protection against moral degradation and evils as outlined in the Surah Ankabut verse 45: “…perform the prayer with the merit it deserves! Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality (indecencies) and wrongdoing (evils).” Despite this verse, there is a serious issue if the prayer performed by some believers does not prevent them from engaging in immoral and unlawful activities. Because if Allah says “keeps people away” then surely Allah is telling the truth. If that’s the case, there is a deficiency in the prayers. Why do those who pray regularly are unable to or to choose not to stay away from indecencies and evil? Why doesn’t prayer distance people from indecencies and evil? How can we perform prayer in its truest sense? In this article, within the context of this verse, we will attempt to investigate this topic in great detail.
