Summary/Abstract: NiAl is a potential high temperature material due to its high elastic modulus, low density, high melting point and excellent oxidation resistance up to 1300°C. In this study, NiAl-34Cr-xNb (x = 0, 1, 3, 5) alloys have been successfully produced by electric current activated sintering (ECAS) method. ECAS method is a synthesis process where mechanical pressure is applied along with the electric current passing over the powders that are cold formed and compact after being placed in a mold. The microstructure and phase structures of the produced samples are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDS) and Xray diffraction (XRD). In addition, hardness and density were determined for characterization of the samples. NiAl-34Cr alloy consists of NiAl and Cr phases. Nb, which is added as an alloying element, has been determined as the 3rd phase in the structure due to its low solubility. Compared to NiAl-34Cr alloy, higher hardness value was obtained in samples with Nb addition.
