Summary/Abstract: Despite the vagueness in the definition of the concept of creative economy, this concept seems to be seen as a principle of nowadays economy. The aim of the paper is therefore to map and compare different approaches of academics as well as politicians to understand the concept of the creative economy and this way to contribute to current debate on this topic. We can divide these approaches (with some abstraction) into two views. First looks at the creative sector as the rapidly growing sector with the increasing impact on the economic growth and the second one looks more on the need to understand the creativity as the main driver of the whole economy. The area of the classification of cultural and creative industries follows the first view and the paper tries to clarify reasons of nowadays classification of creative sector.
