The "Trauma-Affect" model of S. Freud: Pioneering psychological explanations of emotional disturbances

Summary/Abstract: Sigmund Freud is well known as the founder of psychoanalysis. Up to the presence, however, many people do not differentiate between his early trauma-affect, or pathogenic memories model for the explanation of neurosis, and psychoanalysis proper. There are no publications in Bulgarian language so far sheding light on this early model. This article is outlining the basic concepts of the trauma-affect model: early traumatic experience, anxiety, unbearable ideas, defence, neurotic symptom, catharsis, as well as some modern interpretations of the model based on the contemporary models of human memory.
