Local referendum concerning dismissal of the local government organs in Third Polish Republic and the Silesian voivodeship

Summary/Abstract: The presented article comprehensively discusses the practical aspects of local referenda which were organized to dismiss the local government organs. Author describes the main causes of the recall referenda, their average turnout and effectiveness between 1992 and 2014. The presented data was compared to referenda organized in the Silesian Voivodeship. It is a prelude to a critical evaluation of the applicable law on local referendum and the proposed legislative changes in this field.
