Summary/Abstract: Motherhood, with its origin and symbolism, represented the only order and orientation for the woman. If some woman dared question motherhood, she risked questioning her position as a woman. One of the most mysterious and complex relationships related to motherhood is the one between mother and daughter. The paper aims to single out the literary techniques and modalities that define this relationship, at the same time pointing out to the 20th-century Italian female authors dealing with this issue.
