Summary/Abstract: The report includes significant moments from the history of creation of the Botanical Garden (Institute) of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (1972–1986) and the achievements of its first staff, the idea of constructing the BG (I) on a new territory, the development of applied and theoretical botany, the training of researchers, the creation of scientific schools, the preparation and publication of the „Flora of Bessarabia” and of a series of monographs, the publication of the periodical of „Journal of Botany”, the organization of the Specialized Scientific Council for the defence of doctoral (Ph.D.) and habilitation (Dr. habil.) theses, the organization of different local and international congresses on botany, the development of scientific collaboration and joint research with Botanical Gardens from other countries. The completion of the second stage of the construction of BG (I) of ASM, which is a priority issue, remains topical.
