Summary/Abstract: There are claims that distance education and in particular open distance learning (ODL) are unique in providing broadened access to higher education at lower costs without compromising quality. While traditional face-to-face higher education is caught in the fixed vectors of quality, access and cost, the so-called ‘iron triangle’, distance education and in particular, online distance education promises to break the ‘iron triangle’.
