Self-determination – the key to transition from occupation to profession

Summary/Abstract: In this era where traditional operational mechanism of functioning and funding of libraries and related institutions are ineffective, the causes of such a state of affairs are examined. On the other hand, it is also an ideal time to look at opportunities to lay out or put in place preconditions for new and better ways of working. In this paper, professional issues are considered from the point of view of her professionalization, analyzing her current status and observing the general prerequisites for development from just a mere occupation to a profession. A special emphasis on the presentation will be placed on the most important link of professionalization: the ability to selfdefine the specificity of the profession.
