SCIENTIX and its role in education for the knowledge and promotion of science and technology

Summary/Abstract: An in‑depth understanding of science and technology is fundamental for any responsible member of our contemporary society. According to a recent EU study, Europe has to train 1,000,000 new STEM researchers by 2020. In order to reach this objective, a series of initiatives has been launched, for the purpose of promoting science learning and attracting youth towards scientific career paths. SCIENTIX is one of the initiatives launched by European Commission 7 years ago. This is a strategic project coordinated by European Schoolnet, a consortium of 30 ministries of education, located in Brussels. This project aims to promote innovative and participative teaching methods, to stimulate students’ interest for the study of STEM subjects, but also to increase European collaboration across educational institutions. Therefore, through its initiatives, SCIENTIX significantly contributes to the improvement of STEM education results at an international level, offering the young generation the necessary skills for the XXIst century.
