Summary/Abstract: The myth of Narcissus and Echo is one of the most famous western myths. It is one of those mythical stories which have structured cultural and social identities of Western man. This myth has also determined certain theoretical postulates of European thought. The purpose of this paper is not so much to revise the dominant interpretation of the myth as it is to try to establish a relationship between the structure of the Narcissus myth and storytelling. The aim is to recognize the moments of failure, incorrect citations, reflections, as well as moments of poetics and of establishing forms of storytelling that can be transformed into an ethical performative. The myth of Narcissus and Echo will be read through the lens of psychoanalysis and the theory of performative acts. Some referential excesses will be detected whose common feature is an element of the referential failure.
