Summary/Abstract: The rise of aesthetic populism presents one of the most intriguing realisations of the postmodern culture in which consumer or mass culture is become a space of a new and increased cultural empire, questioning the aesthetic “purity” and autonomy of the work of art. Expansion of cultural borders is equally related to both contextual and spatial expansion. For cultural studies, as a new kind of “postdisciplinary” or “multidiscursive” thinking model and a signifi cant contribution in defining a newer context of culture, culture is contradictory, open and continuous social process of production, circulation and consumption of meaning. When traditional assumption on existence of some pure, homogeneous, authentic and autonomous culture came to the end, some new terms like hybridism, crossroad, transit and transgression has emerged, liberating the “location of culture” (Homi Bhabha) from its traditional and historical forms. The growing interest in cultural reception also intensifi ed theoretical interest in the ways in which people actively and creatively produce their own meanings and create their own culture as a way of resistance against the established order.
