Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the channels and networks by which the Republic of Ragusa gathered information from Ottoman lands – especially the pashadom of Bosnia – about the ongoing of the War of Candia (1645 – 1669). For this purpose, the Republic of Ragusa relied, even in time of war, on the reports of its informants (especially ambassadors or envoys), who gathered all sorts of information from all kinds of sources, and also on a network of agents installed in Ottoman territory that recovered information on its behalf. The article is based on concrete cases regarding the sort of people who formed networks of information between the cities of the Bosnian pashadom and the Republic of Ragusa, aspects of the “supply and demand” of the information within those networks and examples of adulterated information. Regarding documental sources, the article is based on diplomatic Ragusean reports and letters and on the depositions given to the government of the Republic of Ragusa.
