Considerations on national identity and European identity

Summary/Abstract: Europe today presents a new image of continental construction under EU auspices. We can say that Romania finds its deserved place it alongside the other nations in the European family. The European Union, after a phase of expansion with many controversial elements but inevitable enters a process of institutional reform and European identity tends to become a reality shared by the entire continent. Recent studies in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (ex-communist regime countrieslike Romania, by the way) have reached a consensus, advancing the idea that formal change domestic institutions may entail changing political practices. The reforms that have taken place in these countries had tangible consequences for political life beyond their national borders. Institutional changes in time, entail the change of identities, values, power and strategies.
