Grammar of the Text and Grammar of the Language: Morphology of the Nouns in May Service Menaion MSS Copied at Different Times

Summary/Abstract: Using as an example three fragments of the grammar system of the Old Russian Slavonic literary language, the article considers various types of correlation between the linguistic norm and its textual realizations. The analysis of the morphological and grammar variant readings of the forms with the value of quality (the form on -ь, yat' and verbal formations) in the Old Russian copies of the May Service Menaia from various time periods shows that several types of the correlation existed: 1) the conformity of the verbal multipurpose realization of the forms on -ь with the value of quality to their linguistic status as the words-syncret, 2) the formal and semantic definiteness caused and supported by the context of the innovative formations (the forms on -yat') on the background of the varying means of expression of the quality (the forms on -o) offered by the language, 3) the recognition of the grammar innovation as the fact of the language in the case of the development of its clear formal - semantic and functional characteristics (strengthening of the verbal centers of the syntagma, formation of the adverbial participle, etc.)
