Female Preschool Teachers Education in the Private Maria Papiewska’s School for Female Preschool Teachers in Lublin (1918-1939)

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the issue of education in the Private Maria Papiewska’s School for Female Preschool Teachers in Lublin (1918-1939). Due to the nature of the sources and the research, the methods characteristic of historical sciences are used. The paper consists of three parts. The first one presents the biography of the founder of the school, Maria Papiewska. The second part is an outline of the school’s activities, including organizational assumptions, admission criteria, and characteristics of the female students. The third part discusses the curriculum. The Maria Papiewska’s School was the only female teacher training institution in Lublin operating until the outbreak of World War II. Despite the fact that the candidates came from different backgrounds and some of them completed only five grades of basic education, no effort was spared to help them obtain the highest qualifications possible. The problem of preparing early childhood educators seems to be timeless. Love for working with children and the negation of routine and pattern remain unchanged.
