Summary/Abstract: This article addresses the presence and perception of contemporary African art in Poland, considered on the example of the curatorial project Armia jednostki / Army of the Individual by the Angolan artist Nástio Mosquito featured at the Malta Festival Poznań 2019. This article not only offers a critical analysis of Mosquito’s concert-performances and films made by the Geração 80 artists – a generation of artists born in Angola in the ’80s during the civil war. Referring to the reflections of the authors, such as Zygmunt Bauman or Piotr Piotrowski, the author searches for an answer to the question about the specificity of the cultural relationships between Poland and Angola, and to what extent a Polish viewer can identify with the message of the young Angolans.
