Summary/Abstract: Films showing the phenomenon of forced migration for economic or political reasons create a kind of “on the road” cinema – a road marked by borders, fear, uncertainty and inability to return. Documentary and fictional films record individual stories, motivations and routes of contemporary refugees, which are consistently described by Michel Agier. In the process of exile/escape, the researcher notices three stages: decay, imprisonment and actions thatcan also be found in film productions combining the motif of life on the road and periods spent in camps. The French anthropologist refers to the concept of “wasted lives” by Zygmunt Bauman, who looks at migration through the prism of modernity and globalization. Using the reflection of both researchers allows to problematise “on the road” cinema and interpret typical narratives, their characters and locations.
