Nouns for kinship relations and the relation between grammatical gender and natural gender

Summary/Abstract: The problem of grammatical gender-biological gender relation is related to study of nouns for persons. The gender assignment in Bulgarian language is defined primarily by a formal indicator. There is also a small number of nouns containing a semantic component ҅sex҅. The study presents the model of gender differentiation according to the semantic component of biological gender in the common nouns for relatives. Some of them have their origin since the Proto-Indo-European language.
