Summary/Abstract: The latest data show a 7.6% of GDP allocated to education in Korea, above the OECD average. In Japan is 2.7% of GDP although spending per student is relatively high in Japan. The funds come from public and private sources. Public expenditure on education includes direct expenditure on educational institutions, as well as public subsidies on education granted to households and administered by educational institutions. Private expenditure on education contains all direct expenditure on educational institutions, with the exception of public subsidies and other expenditure outside educational institutions, such as textbooks purchased by families, private guidance for students and students' living costs.
