Summary/Abstract: Macro-criminality against the environment has consequences regarding the exhaustion and pollution of fresh water, the pollution of marine water, the reduction of fish breeding fund, the degradation and disappearance of biodiversity, the degradation and loss of agricultural land as a result of desertification, the loss of forested land as a result of illegal and irresponsible cuttting down, the violations on food safety and health, the stratospheric depletion of ozone and the global warming. Illicit global financial capital represents the source of serious crimes, not only against property, but also against people and the environment, while organized crime is responsible, among other things, for over-indebtedness of states and the robbery of our planet's natural resources. None of the regulations of the Romanian legislation cover the environmental facts that cause an ecological catastrophe or a disaster. At this point, legislative, judicial and law enforcement authorities should be aware that a new approach is needed, leading to the systemization of legislation, its adaptation to the new realities and requirements, the increase of sanctions and its effective application, with priority, not only at declarative level.
