Some remarks on the translation of the Portuguese Fado exemplified with the song Garras dos Sentidos

Summary/Abstract: The article concerns translations of Portuguese fado songs into the Polish language. The genre of fado is considered a symbol of the national identity and is one of the most typical elements of the Portuguese culture. The article contains an analysis of the first Polish translation of the poem Garras dos Sentidos written by the Portuguese writer Agustina Bessa-Luís. The analysis has been carried out in order to check whether the original text and its translation function in both cultures in the identical way and which elements of the text are essential to its proper reception. The article concentrates on such components of the structure of the work as versification, the arrangement of rhymes and semantic phenomena.
