Summary/Abstract: Simultaneously with the industrial development, degradation of the environment was taking place. In the final phase it led up to the climate change that is manifested by extreme weather conditions. Although much effort has been directed against the negative impact on quality of life, man was loosing this fight. The final breakthrough came after the Paris climate agreement COP21 held in Paris 2015. The paper deals with all the way to COP21, the main points of the Paris Agreement, its ratification in chronological order and subsequent negotiations. It provides the most basic adaptation measures that could be helpful in minimizing the impact of extreme weather events. It also highlights the role of Slovakia as the presiding EU country in ratifying the Paris Agreement.
