Summary/Abstract: The present study deals with the manuscript of the Heavenly Ladder by St. John Climacus from the Rumyantsev collection in the Russian National Library in Moscow, MS No 198. Since K. F. Kalaydovich discovered it in 1824 it has been attracting the attention of many generations of scholars. And still, no answer has been given to the two most important questions: when and where was the manuscript written? The article summarizes a number of diverse viewpoints and points out some graphic and orthographic peculiarities of the monument that can help solve these problems. The author has also made 5 corrections in the description of the manuscript written by P. N. Vladimirov.
