Summary/Abstract: Translating Le Bâillon by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt from French into Romanian and Portuguese: Comparative Study of the Uses of Tenses. When translating Le Bâillon by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt from French into Romanian and Portuguese, we realized that the sequence of tenses is quite different from one language to another, even though we could identify multiple pairs of apparently similar tenses, such as “le passé simple”/ “perfectul simplu”/ “o pretérito perfeito simples”. The main issue is that these tenses have different semantic and stylistic values in Romanian, French and Portuguese.
