Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to describe the national and social processes around housing in the Knin area after the end of the 1991–1995 war by revealing the changing relationships of the Serbs who remained, Croatian returnees, Croatians settlers, and Serbian returnees to their houses and property. It tries to reflect the ways in which war and post-war conditions built a frame for the upcoming relevance of nationality for access rights to houses on the one hand, and for the changing economic, social, and emotional relations of owners and users to the houses or apartments on the other. It also shows how the changing relations to the house and home influenced, and were influenced by, the decisions and strategies of people to stay in the region, to return to the region or to settle in the region.
