Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the problem of correlation of the family functionality and communication between parent and adolescent. In the study of this problem we approached from a position of systematic approach to the family. The patterns of family functioning are explained over the dimensions of cohesion and adaptibility. This paper presents a results of empirical research, which suggesting us to the domi- nance of half-functionality family system (58.2%), with the prevailing of patterns which indicate the chaotic functioning (52.1%). It was founded a statistically signifi- cant correlation between family functionality and the openness of parent communica- tion, which confirmed the hypothesis of which we started in the research. It was also found statistically significant differences in the arithmetic means, which indicating that to mothers, in compared to fathers, is somewhat more pronounced openness in communication. The results also show that there is a statistically significant correla- tion between mothers and fathers in relation to the presence of problematic communi- cation. The results indicate the need and the importance of adequate support to family systems. This suggest us to the eventually possibility of intervention in the familiy systems and indicates to the importance of the models which are focusing on patterns of family functioning, rather than individually focused interventions.
