Preventive archaeological excavations on the route of the A1 motorway (Sibiu– Orăștie): the medieval habitation at km 15+550 (commune Săliște, Alba county)

Summary/Abstract: In the autumn of 2011, from October to December, an archaeological diagnostic was undertaken along the route of the future A1 motorway (Sibiu–Orăştie section), sector 1, between 0–24+110 km (Orăştie– Sebeş). Along this motorway sector 11 archeological sites were identified and excavated during the 2012 campaign. Also, at km 15+500 of this motorway sector, during the diagnosis stage, two medieval dwellings and a pit were identified and excavated. The recovered archaeological material of this spot consists mainly of pottery fragments (pots and pans), as well as animal bone remains (Bos taurus, Sus domesticus şi ovicaprin), two grinder fragments and one brick fragment.
