Summary/Abstract: All levels of government in BiH have a long way to go to successfully combat gender-based violence, and enhance the legislative and institutional framework for a more intensive fight against domestic violence and violence against women. The adoption of the Criminal Code of Republika Srpska in 2017, presented the first step towards the harmonization of the BiH legislation with the Istanbul Convention. In the near future, it is necessary to harmonize the criminal codes of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Brčko District, and harmonize the laws on protection against domestic violence with the Istanbul Convention. Also, it is necessary to regulate and criminalize sexist and misogynistic hate speech as well as incitement to violence against women and gender-based violence by all criminal codes of BiH.
