Summary/Abstract: Romanian communities from the U.S.A. established up to the outburst of the first world war had to face difficulties that could not be anticipated back home in their native Transylvania, but their members were able to cope with them due to their good qualities: young, healthy, hard working and their hope for a better life. Most of them had the thought of returning to their homeland and seeing again their loved ones as an incentive, this was the main reason they could resist to all kind of ordeals, some of them set up by their own fellows, some leaders of the first Romanian organisations from America. Even though there were cases of fraud, most of them were not deterred, but continued their life there following the dream they had come to America for: to gather enough money to come back to their homeland, or to start a new life on American soil.
