Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the definition and specification of the concept of volunteer work and the personality of a volunteer. We point out the attitudes of young people to volunteering in Slovakia and the motivation that leads them to the self-sacrificing work. Volunteering as an unpaid activity that is not directly related to the professional work of the person who does it does not benefit from it. There are various motivating factors that lead to volunteering. Volunteering is one of the ways that leads humanity to humanization, especially in the environment of material values. It is necessary to motivate young people to help without reward or recognition, to promote solidarity that is beneficial for the development and operation of today's society. We point out the motivation for volunteering among young people in Slovakia.
