Summary/Abstract: The theme of war is currently penetrating to the reading of young adults in Slovakia mainly via translations from the Anglophone literature. The author of this study interprets and compares three novels on the above theme: the prose by Australian author Markus Zusak – The Book Thief, the book by American author Anthony Doerr – All the Light We Cannot See and the book by Irish author John Boyne – Stay Where You Are & Then Leave. The stories portrayed a man with disability. The interpretation of the selected texts is focused on those text parameters that, in view of the author, fundamentally affected the books’ appeal on young adult readers, as well as the authenticity and depth of penetration into the essence of the war’s inhumanity. The text parameters include the theme of love, the specificities of the voice and narration strategies, the functional use of sensual principle (colour, sound and touch) and the phenomenon of grotesque.
