Summary/Abstract: Admission and adoption were the main processes behind the continuity of families in Ancient Rome, unable to have descendants naturally. These were complex processes that had consequences both socially and politically, being increasingly used by emperors or nobles / heads of Roman families who did not have heirs to the throne.
