Summary/Abstract: A reality that signifi cantly infl uences the relationship between faith and reason, between theology and science is the symbolic dimension of thought. Underthe conditions of alienation of symbolic thinking, one can observe not only amisunderstanding of the connection between reason and faith but also a distortionof the specifi c identity of reason and faith. Since I believe that the iconic structureof reason can be a signifi cant coordinator in articulating and developing an ecclesialapproach of the relationship between Orthodox theology and science, I will focus onpresenting relevant aspects of the past and current context regarding this subject inorder to be able to shape and consolidate, for the future, a perspective of cultivatingthe dialogue between theology and science, assuming the specifi city of the OrthodoxTradition.
