Summary/Abstract: This study presents the current situation ofthe OrientalAssyrian Church. Following some brief historical data and a description of the hardships endured by the Oriental Christians in the past century, the focus falls upon the recent period inaugurated by the election of Mar Gewargis Sliwa as the new Patriarch. The problems ofthe Church, the attempt to renewal as well as the struggle to preserve the specfic traits of this branch of Christianity, the ecumenica! relations and the perspectives for the future are also presented.
