The meadow of Somes – source of health and wealth

Summary/Abstract: In the north of Sălaj county, the Someș river crosser the Guruslău Depression, creating a wide and terraced corridor and the nenters into an impressive gorge, called „Strâmtorile Țicăului”. The harmonious combination between the wooded hills and the meadow of Someș River creates here an amazing and spectacular landscape. The natural potential of this location is a valuable one, not only from the scenery point of view, but especially by the richness of flora and fauna existing here.The Someș meadow and its surroundings are a veritable paradise of medicinal herbs which, by their therapeutically effects, represent a source of health for the inhabitants of the area. The fertile land of the meadow, the rich vegetation of the Someș river margins, the grazing and grass lands, the nectarous plants, the rich fishy fauna of the river are benefic for agriculture, animals breeding, culture of bees and fishing,being sources of welfare for the people of the area. Although the biodiversity of this area is rich and well enough preserved, there is the danger of harming it by anthropic interventions which may determine the pollution of the soil and water.
