Summary/Abstract: Information flows tend to “pour over” networks of their circulation, and overcome limits of a medium by expanding to a broader space. What once were “media statements” could be no more considered as aflow from sender to recepient via a defined channel; the messages spread and influence each other, mix and mutate within a unique (but not uniform) information domain; information cross different channels and refract in various media changing their form with each decoding or recoding on the local level. It becomes increasingly difficult to separate each cultural production or formation, each process of production of meaning from information processes taking place on a broader plan, which regulate the speed and range of flow of images and words on the whole planet connected by hyperconnections. In this contexts very characteristic is DeLillo’s reconstruction of social meanings of various video recordings and other media documents of the USA public figures, and his setting them in the context of the 20th century American history; the procedure results in the creation of alternative spaces of postmodern culture. The novels Libra and Underground reflect these processes and situations that either led or are leading to what Virilio calls “universal incident”; the spread of information in media systems often entails their destructive and irreversible effects, as it is expected that final product of the process will be the final termination of the space-time continuum and material existence. However, from DeLillo’s point of view, it is not neccesarily only destruction – it is also creation of spaces of new creative potentials.
