Summary/Abstract: “The blackest day” of my life is how Raphael Lemkin described the delivery of the verdict in the Nuremberg trial.1 War crimes prosecutor Henry T. King Jr., who met Lemkin in Nuremberg’s Grand Hotel at the beginning of October 1946, described him as “very upset.” “At the time, he was unshaven, his clothing was in tatters, and he looked disheveled.”
