Summary/Abstract: The paper sets out to examine the relationship and interaction between Standard Lithuanian and Administrative Lithuanian as one of its varieties. If a language phenomenon is unacceptable in the standard language (SL), it can hardly be acceptable in the administrative language (AL) either. However, the AL has its own peculiarities not common in other varieties of the SL. Linguistic means of expression in the AL can be divided into those featured throughout the SL and characteristic of official styles, and those which are confined solely to the AL. It can be generally characterized as being close to the language of science and mass media, since administrative, scientific and information style make up the group of official styles all sharing similar features. The interaction between the SL and AL can be characterized as mutual: the AL selects and adapts SL means of expression for its own purposes, whereas specific AL means of expression are used in other varieties of the SL, sometimes for no particular reason. Generally, the impact of the AL on the SL is enormous.
