Summary/Abstract: The opinions of Saint Gregory of Nyssa on the origin of human sexuality stirred up passionate debates over the time. Adopted with no critical reservation by some theologians, they tend to reduce anthropology to a kind of “angelism” that has devastating effects on the understanding of marriage, in particular and on human life, in general. In this article I undertake a scrutiny of Saint Gregory’s influence on Orthodox anthropology and question the compatibility of his opinions on sexuality with the teachings of the Orthodox Church, as expressed by contemporary remarkable theologians.
