CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF PROBLEMS IN THE HOSPITAL SECTOR

Summary/Abstract: Health providing institutions have the misson of offering and providing easily accesible and affordable qualified health care. Healthcare should be of quality, outreach and volume sufficient to meet the demands of hospital treatment, highly specialized procedures and ambulatory examinations of the population. The ultimate aim of healthcare is restoring and keeping better health status of the Bulgarian population, lowering mortality and raising the quality of life. Hospital treatment uses up half of healthcare insurance income, according to available data, while modern indicators of measuring the effectiveness of healthcare incorporating both economic cost and population benefs have not been introduced to Bulgaria. This is the Achilles’ heel of health insurance management in our country and hospital care generates multiple problems that tend to go more and more serious and need to be addressed as soon as possible.
