Summary/Abstract: The study aims to briefly identify the Scandinavian cultural context. Its intention is to specify the basic features of this still exotic cultural space for us and to point to its reflection in selected literary works for children and youth. After a brief outline of the cultural issues in general and the cultural models of the contemporary culturology as well as the brief outline of the translated Scandinavian literature into Slovak language we focus mainly on the translations of the works of Astrid Lindgren and Tove Jansson as the very famous authors contributing (not only) to the Scandinavian literature for children and youth. In particular sub-chapters of the study we try to introduce their art works both within their (Swedish and Finnish-Swedish) context as well as the Slovak cultural context. The subchapters concerning with the specific features of the selected works representing the Scandinavian cultural context form the core of the study.
