Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the possibilities of interpreting an unfinished poem of Adam Mickiewicz, [“Pan Baron”] [“Mr Baron”], in the light of the main theme of this work, which is the agon as a struggle and contest between artists. An important evidence of this competition is a passage from Mickiewicz’s letter to Józef Bogdan Zaleski testifying to Mickiewicz’s interest in the poetic art of Juliusz Słowacki. Consequently, the study is an attempt to interpret [“Mr Baron”] as a piece based on a sophisticated artistic concept that situates itself close to the category of romantic irony.
