Summary/Abstract: The Ierosolymitika are paintings with Biblical content, produced between the 17th and the 19th centuries in Jerusalem. The wealthy Bulgarian pilgrims usually bought several Ierosalymitika each. Jesus Christ’s tomb was painted in the center of each Ierosolymitikon. Invariably, there was an icon of the Theotokos to the left of the central image and another one of Jesus Christ to the right. The rest of the space was filled with scenes from the Old and the New Testaments and with icons of Saints. The author of this article discusses an icon of St. Cyril and St. Methodius she was able to find in one such Ierosolymitikon brought to Bulgaria in the 19th century.
