Summary/Abstract: Determinism in history of geographic research. Determinism in the philosophical position that for every event including human actions that could cause no other event. In other words, „there are many determinisms depending upon what preconditions are considered to be determinative of an event”. Geographic determinism is the theory that the human habits and characteristics of a particular culture are shaped by geographic conditions. Technology is seen as the only way to mitigate risks associated with geographic determinism. Environmental determinism, also known as climatic determinism or geographical determinism, is the view that physical environment sets limits on human social development. Due this fact, in the last decades geography became focused on the study of how the physical environment affected, or even caused, human culture and activities.
