Summary/Abstract: Ratio scripta - written reason. This is a characteristic that briefly expresses the quality of Roman law, one of the basic pillars of European civilization. No legal system is as deeply integrated into the history of Europe as Roman law. Let us recall that the Roman state, in which this legal system was born, lasted for more than a thousand years, and that no other system affected the legal relations of so many other state bodies after the end of the empire in which the legal relations arose. Czech private law is one of those legal systems to which Roman law has never actually become foreign.
